Hello First Look Fair Participants

Hey everone. You probably found this page through our flyers at our table and on the Study Abroad Office’s table at the First Look Fair. If so, congrats. You made it this far, so you’re definitely interested in travel, interesting people, and interesting people who’ve traveled.

I wrote the following description of the group for an e-mail closing our old listserv, but I feel that it still holds. Basically, we’re a group of students who had a good time seeing the world and want other people to get the same connections and learn the same lessons and feel the same adventures we did. So if the following sounds like it fits you, or you’re just interested, give us an email at travelingterps [at] gmail.com
and let us know your name, your year, and your major and we will be in touch soon…our second activity is next Friday! Oh and right…the quote…

This group was founded on the idea that people who have been to cool places and done cool things like to talk about those places and things. We still do. So the primary goal of this group is mainly social. We like to hear stories and hear about things we can do on summer break or something like that. I get to talk about climbing mountains on the Georgian-Russian border, you get to talk about the best crepes in some arondissement in Paris, some other guy is talking about hunting for kangaroo in the Australian outback…we all get to meet new people and have a good time. But we’re also adding a couple of goals. We’d like to help incoming students or people who want to do cool stuff abroad find the opportunities to do so. And we want for us undergraduates who want to do work internationally when we graduate to hear about options to do so. So we’re adding an outreach component and trying to rope in speakers to talk to us about work and volunteer in the more cool/fascinating reaches of the world. We also have a whole lot of international students here, and we’d like to be friendly faces for all of them who come and visit us. We’d just like to give them the opportunity to hang out with some cool Americans and experience the United States that we’d like to experience if we were study abroad here. We figure that the best people to meet international students would be those who know how intimidating it can be to be studying in a different country, so the Traveling Terps have the opportunity to really do something important here.

All the best,

TT
